The following will give you a good idea about how this event works. Competitors
don't have to compete in the wedding cake competition if they don't want
to -- as indicated in the rules, there are two distinct shows under the
one umbrella.
THE
THREE JAYS
Please note that The Cake Girls appearance and class has been postponed
until further notice and in their place
James Rosselle,
Jason Ellis and
Joshua John Russell will appear as The Three Jays, jointly creating onsite
show presentations as well as teaching the two-day class! A package of fun
and education. In 2008 we had to turn people away from the class despite a
waiting list because the demand was so strong. THE THREE JAYS will be sure
to excite the same reaction October 5 and 6, 2009. Make sure you get your
check into registration as soon as possible. JAMES, JOSHUA and JASON are
Food Network Challenge veterans and they have promised to create a
showpiece reflecting some of the elements they have successfully used in
televised Challenges.
The class will be conducted October 5 and
6. The cost is $200. Your check is your reservation; first come first
served. Date the check September 1, 2009; the check will be cashed September 2. There will be no refunds after that
date. However, you can sell privately to someone else if an emergency or change of plans should come up. (You can check with us to see if there is a wait list, in which case we can help you make contact with a prospective
student.. The class is almost sold out. In September you will be provided with a list of equipment and supplies to bring. The class will be held at the Tulsa Select
Inn; please make your hotel reservation early as rooms sell out quickly.
See hotel rates and choices under
Accommodations
on this
web site. The Three Jays are currently deciding on what to do as a joint project, but it will be fun and interesting
-- that I guarantee. The content will be posted as soon as it is made available.

present
THE OKLAHOMA STATE SUGAR ART SHOW
and
OF SEA AND SHORE
October 3 - 4, 2009, with setup on October 2.
Dressing the bridal table is just like coordinating a wardrobe -- all of the complementary elements must be there. The contestant's chosen theme must be echoed in the table design. This competition is open to contestants from semiprofessional to master level.
Entrants who don't care to fuss with all the individual table ornamentation may enter the ‘Oklahoma State Sugar Art Show’ -- a companion event that focuses on the skill of the decorator without added to-do. Little or no table decoration is required and contestants may compete against their peers in experience appropriate divisions with eight different categories from which to choose (children's though masters).
RULE UPDATES FOR 2009 INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:
1. No commercial flowers may be used on any competition piece -- automatic point deduction.
2. No non-edible jewelry -- automatic point deduction.
3. No cake parts or cakes from PREVIOUS wedding cake competition may be reentered in the companion event the
following year.
4. Competitors who have either won or placed (GRAND, FIRST, SECOND OR THIRD) in the Wedding Cake Competition will automatically be considered MASTER level decorators.
5. WEDDING COMPETITION exhibits may not have been in competition before or have been seen at the ICES convention -- the work must be new and fresh and we hope will express new techniques and invention.
6. Responsibility: Contestants must double check that all ingredients used to decorate the cakes are acceptable under the USA FDA food and health requirements. No plastic or glass powdered products can ever be used on the cake surface or decorations on a cake. Please bring documentation or contact the Show Director ahead of time to check if there is a question about any product application. Check the ingredient list on the containers.
